Uganda’s efforts to prevent new HIV infections are getting a boost from lenacapavir, a long-acting injection that can protect an HIV-negative person from getting HIV for about six months

According to Dr Flavia Matovu, Director of Research at MU-JHU, the medicine was first developed as a treatment for people living with HIV whose bodies had stopped responding to other HIV medicines. “Lenacapavir was first tested as an ARV for people who were heavily treatment experienced,” Matovu said.
